LG LW8015ER Air Conditioner Review

The LG LW8015ER window-mounted air conditioner retails for about $250 dollars, placing this unit at the middle of the market. If you have the budget to stretch to this figure, and you’re interested in purchasing a window-mounted air conditioner from one of the world’s most reputable retailers, read our full review below to see if it’s worth the bucks.

Cooling Performance

With 8,000 BTU’s of cooling power, we find this unit comfortably in the middle-range of air conditioning units. With regards to dehumidifying capabilities, the LG LW8015ER will take about 2.2 pints per hour out of the air, which is a respectable amount for its price-tag. Servicing an estimated cooling area of up to 340 sq. ft., we recommend the installation of this device in medium-sized living spaces.

Efficiency / Certifications

Unfortunately, perhaps being due to this unit being produced by a company outside of the United States, the LG LW8015ER is not Energy Star Certified. We found this a little odd considering the unit’s impressive Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) of 11.3. Far above the industry average of 9.7, it’s clear that this device is, in fact, quite an energy efficient.

Other certifications this device does have, however, include being UL-Listed, and AHAM certified. What this means is, this device will not have any harmful effects on the air with which it interacts, allowing you to take a deep breath without fear of hidden repercussions. Further, the AHAM certification implies that this device does perform to the extent of the specifications provided by LG.

Convenience

This unit comes with wireless remote control, which is an invaluable addition to any air conditioning unit. While it doesn’t sound significant, on a hot clammy day the last thing you want to have to do is get up and move across the room to tweak the settings on your unit.

Another useful feature is the built-in programmable timer. This allows you to input the hours that you would like your unit to function, independently. The unit will then follow the schedule you have set out, automatically powering on and off according to the times you have programmed. Useful applications of this are programming your device to switch on before you arrive home from work, so you come back to a comfortable home.

The LG LW8015ER has several built-in settings to further enhance user comfort, such as the Auto Mode, the Fan Only mode, and the Dehumidify Only mode. Auto mode enables the device to detect when the conditions in your living space are not the right temperature, and switch on accordingly to bring the room back to your preferred temperature. Fan Only circulates air without cooling, to aid air movement, and Dehumidify Only extracts moisture from the air without cooling.

Finally, this device has an Energy Saver Mode, and Auto Restart capabilities. This means that the device is capable of running on reduced capacities, so as to conserve energy, saving you money on your bills. The Auto Restart function means your unit will automatically reboot following an unprecedented power outing.

Design

An air filter prevents particulates like dust or pollen from being blown about your living space, which is a plus for those of us suffering from bad allergies. This filter is also washable, meaning you won’t have to keep replacing it. With 4-way directional louvers, you are empowered to direct the LG LW8015ER’s cooling blasts to specific areas of the room that you may require increased cooling benefits. With a noise level of 54dB, this unit is relatively quiet as well, with your average human conversation registering at about 60dB. This unit weighs about 57lbs, which is not exactly light, so installation may be tricky. If you struggle with lifting this appliance we urge you to seek help with installation, to be on the safe side.

Help & Support

LG’s experienced customer support representatives are available via email, telephone, or live chat on their website. Also on the same site, there is an extensive FAQs section, in case you’re not in the mood for talking to a representative. Downloadable user manuals are also available in the case of you losing yours.

This unit is backed by a 1-year warranty on both the Appliance and the Compressor. We advise contacting LG directly if you have any questions regarding LG warranty policies.

Verdict

In conclusion, it’s hard to find issue with this product. Our only complaint would be the lack of a Sleep mode, a function that most air conditioners come with nowadays. However, it is possible that you could use one of the more quiet modes on this device as a sleep mode perhaps. This is obviously relative to how deep of a sleeper you are, but it may be a potential solution. All aspects taken into consideration, we would definitely recommend this unit to anyone in the market for a functional mid-range window-mounted air conditioner. The LG LW8015ER may lack certain features, which is a shame, but it does retain the central features that we would expect of a unit of its calibre, barring the Sleep mode.
