Honeywell 50250-S Air Purifier

The Honeywell 50250-S is the perfect solution for removing airborne particulates in living spaces of up to 390 square feet, or larger medium-sized rooms. At the cost of some of the convenient features we would usually be accustomed to in modern air purifiers, the 50250-S’s true HEPA filter is capable of achieving great results in providing clean air for you and your loved ones. Check out our review below for the full details.

Cleaning Capabilities

The Honeywell 50250-S air purifier utilizes true HEPA filter technology to capture up to 99.7% of all airborne allergens down to a minuscule 0.3 microns. Further, these filters can be vacuumed to extend their life to a mind-boggling  3-5 years. With moderate Clean Air Delivery Rates (CADR), we would recommend this unit for installation in larger-medium sized living spaces up to 390 square feet.

Additionally, an activated carbon pre-filter captures larger particles, preserving the inner HEPA filter by shielding it from dust, lint, pet dander, etc. while also reducing common household odors.

Finally, the Honeywell 50250-S benefits from Honeywell’s Intelli-Check™ Electronic Filter Indicator, which notifies the user when the filters require changing or cleaning all while being a cap.

See below for the Honeywell 50250-S’s CADR figure specifics:

  • Smoke: 250
  • Dust: 250
  • Pollen: 250

Efficiency

A key design aspect of the Honeywell 50250-S is its 360-degree air intake and discharge capability, which promotes efficient operation. However, this unit is regrettably not Energy Star certified, and actually consumes more energy than most units on the market. Effectively costing you more on your energy bills than the majority of air purifiers out there, this is the price of the Honeywell  50250-S’s elevated performance.

Convenience

Unfortunately lacking several of the features we have come to search for in modern air purifiers, the Honeywell 50250-S does not benefit from a wireless remote control, a programmable timer, or an extensive range of operational modes.

Further, while the Honeywell 50250-S is still a relatively quiet unit, it will also produce a white noise, which can be irritating when noticeable. However, with 3 differing cleaning levels, the user can minimize the noise level and power drain of this unit by operating it at a lower setting when possible.

There are, admittedly, very few if any convenience-centered features incorporated into this unit’s design, however, this is not without reason. Honeywell has provided us with a powerful air purifier in the form of the Honeywell 50250-S, at the cost of some of the features that would inevitably drive up the price of the product.

Design

With a streamlined round design, this unit will sit back comfortably into the décor of any contemporary living space (within 390 square feet). In addition to this, weighing only 21lbs, the Honeywell 50250-S can be easily moved around the house with minimal effort. Additionally, with Honeywell’s SurroundSeal Technology, the risk of air leaks is minimized.

One design feature of this unit that we particularly enjoyed was the inclusion of Honeywell’s Intelli-Check™ filter indicator. This notifies the user when the filter inside the unit requires replacing, effectively eliminating the need to be constantly worrying about when your filter should be renewed. On the topic of filters, easy maintenance of this device is further supported by the filters being washable, simply vacuum them to remove trapped dirt.

Help & Support

With a generous 5-year limited warranty, in the unlikely case of you encountering an issue with the Honeywell 50250-S, you needn’t fear abandonment by the manufacturer, as Honeywell is more-than prepared to get your device back on track as soon as possible.

Befitting a company of their stature, Honeywell has gone to great lengths to ensure that their customer service representatives are available to be contacted through a wide variety of platforms, such as social media, email, telephone, and live chat. Additionally, all Honeywell products are backed by a wealth of online resources available through the company’s official website. Such resources include FAQs, downloadable user documents, and troubleshooter services.

Verdict

As far as air purifiers are concerned, the Honeywell  50250-S is certainly adequate in terms of performance. However, this device does stagger ever-so-slightly when it comes to convenient operation, and while the unit is not loud, it does produce a potentially irritating white noise. Regardless, we would recommend this unit based on its sheer strength at removing pollutants, forgiving the lack of (arguably less important) convenience-related features. If you require a powerful home air purifier and don’t mind a bit of white noise, we think the Honeywell 50250-S may be the perfect fit for you.
