Cooling Performance

Utilising a Microtube Technology™ refrigeration system, the Bryant Legacy 4 ton air conditioner unit has a rated cooling capacity of 48,000 Btu/h. Similar to the rest of the Legacy line, the ‘Legacy 4’ functions on a single stage system. A unit of this size is suitable by our estimate for use in large homes or commercial properties. However, as the subject of AC performance is subject to environment and seasonal changes, do not take our estimate as gospel. Instead, we recommend that you hire a specialist to assess your property, and decide what kind of AC you require.

Efficiency & Certifications

This unit is backed by a UL verification, however is lacking an Energy Star certification. Pulling in an EER of 11.5 – 12.5, and an adequate SEER of 14. Bear in mind, that central AC system are subject to being affected by seasonal change and local environments. Therefore, many believe the SEER system of rating to be inaccurate at times.

Convenience

With a sound level of 79dBA, the ‘Legacy 4’ is relatively quiet for its size, although being slightly louder than the Legacy 2 and 3. However, given its greater size, the relatively tiny increase in sound level may be taken as an improvement. This unit may be hooked up either to a traditional thermostat, or to your smartphone by Wi-Fi due to this unit supporting Housewise™. This puts total control of your home AC unit in your grasp, and enhances the convenience of the overall product immensely.

Design

Built for durability, the ‘Legacy 4’ comes in solid, durable sheet metal construction, with a baked-on powder paint complete outer covering to combat rust and corrosion. A dense wire coil guard is also available, although 3-phase units come with this added protection as standard. It is recommended that you hire a certified Bryant dealer to install this unit, however if you decide to go with an alternate contractor, make doubly sure that you hire a competent and experienced one. Otherwise, you could find yourself paying a substantial amount of cash to repair any damage inflicted by improper installation.

Help & Support

Bryant maintain a detailed FAQ’s section on their website, as well as a ‘Contact Us’ page. This product, similar to the rest of its line, is covered by a 10-year limited parts warranty. However, original buyers must be made aware that they must register their product within 90 days of purchase, or their warranty is cut in half to a 5-year limited parts warranty.

Potential buyers should be made aware that some customers have cited issues with Bryants customer service providers, so as always we advise our readers to conduct some research of their own before committing to a purchase.

Summary

In conclusion, this unit is a robust, and reliable addition to Bryant’s Legacy series. Smartphone enabled control is a particularly enjoyable feature of these units. All factors taken into consideration, we believe this unit to be a decent choice in central air conditioner units. However, it bears repeating that we recommend our readers study multiple units in order to find the one that best suits them, to avoid customer dissatisfaction. Additions to your home such as central AC require details pertaining to your home specifically, and unfortunately no review article can take such information into account.
