Amana Air Conditioner Review 2021

The Amana Corporation is an American brand that specialises in household appliances. Founded in 1934 in Middle Amana, Iowa, the company is now a subsidiary of the Whirlpool corporation. However, the Air Conditioner and Furnace division of the manufacturer is owned by Daikin North America.

Today we will be reviewing five Amana air conditioner units. We seek to provide our readers with all the necessary specifications they need in order to make an informed purchase, based upon their needs.

1. Amana 7,000 Btu Portable Air Conditioner

First up on our Amana Air Conditioner Review is the Amana 7,000 Btu Portable Air Conditioner. The only portable Air Conditioner on this list, this model is the perfect choice if you’re in the market for something you can pull around the living room, or perhaps take into another room to keep you cool on a summer’s day. Stylish, and effective, this is one of our favourite portable units.

Cooling Performance

This portable AC unit boasts an impressive 7,000 BTUs of cooling power, with an airflow rate of 123 cubic feet per minute. Cooling a space of up to 250 sq. ft.

The Amana 7,000 Btu Portable Air Conditioner also has a built-in dehumidifier. This is an invaluable addition to a standard AC unit for those of us living in hot & humid environments, removing up to 1.5 pints of moisture from the air, every hour.

We would recommend this unit for usage in small-medium sized living spaces, within the square footage stated above.

Efficiency / Certifications

This unit is unfortunately not Energy Star certified, and falls below the average EER (Energy Efficiency Ratio) of 9.7, falling in at 8.3.

This may mean that this unit does not follow energy consumption regulations, which means operating one may cost more than your average portable AC.

However, a high energy cost is understandable considering the above-average level of cooling power. Nonetheless, we would advise not to leave this AC running for extremely long periods of time.

Convenience

With a remote control included with this unit, Amana’s portable AC is controllable from anywhere in the room.

A 24-hour programmable timer is built-in, allowing the user to input which hours of the day they would like the device to operate. The unit will then power-on automatically for these hours of work, and then power-off when they’re over. This saves money and energy.

An unusual feature that this model includes is the ability to sustain a constant temperature. This is achieved by switching to the fan function whenever the room begins to become too cold.

Two fan and air conditioning functions also provide the user with more control over their AC unit.

Finally, with its maximum noise level only reaching 53dB, this unit is exceptionally quiet for its output.

Design

Handles on the sides of this unit, coupled with easy-rolling caster wheels enable enhanced mobility, considering that the product weighs 45.9lbs. A 6 foot LCDI power cord reduces the restrictions of where this unit can be placed in the room.

An electric control panel at the top-face of the unit allows the user to adjust what temperature they would like the room, which mode(s) they would like to be activated, and program the 24-hour timer.

Aesthetically speaking, this is a very stylish product. With a closable air vent at the top, a minimalistic control panel, and a soft white curved encasement bearing the Amana name on the front-face, this design is both simple and complex. The perfect addition to any contemporary living space, this model will sit back with ease into any modern décor.

A window exhaust kit and exhaust hose is also included with this unit.

Help & Support

Amana maintains an impressive number of customer accessible resources on their website regarding the usage and maintenance of their products. These services include a troubleshooter, access to user manuals, service plans, FAQs, and information relating to product parts.

Customer service representatives are contactable via phone, email, live chat, and social media platforms such as Facebook, and Twitter.

No warranty information was made readily available at the time of this review. However, should you have any questions or concerns relating to this product, we recommend that you contact Amana directly, and they will happily help you with any remaining issues.

Verdict

We are big fans of the Amana brand. Their commitment to quality is evident in the way in which this product is designed. Both the performance, and convenience of this model impressed us a great deal. Cutting no corners, Amana made sure that this unit came packed with all of the essentials we could ever ask for, enhancing the convenience factor of the product to a great extent.

2. Amana 6,000 Btu Window Mounted Air Conditioner

The second unit in our Amana Air Conditioner Review is the Amana 6,000 Btu Window Mounted Air Conditioner. The first of four window-mounted Air Conditioner units we will be reviewing today, the Amana 6,000 Btu is technically the weakest on this list with regards to cooling power. However, the level of convenience this unit offers more than makes up for it.

Cooling Performance

With a cooling power of 6,000 BTUs, this unit can cool an area up to 250 sq. ft.

However, as this product also doubles over as a dehumidifier, the Amana 6,000 Btu Window Mounted Air Conditioner also removes 1.58 pints of moisture from the air per hour.

This makes the Amana 6,000 Btu perfect for a hot & humid climate.

Efficiency / Certifications

If it’s cost-friendliness and efficiency that you’re after, the Amana 6,000 Btu Window Mounted Air Conditioner might be exactly what you’re looking for.

With an Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) of 12.2, this unit is far above the industry average of 9.7, meaning it adheres to energy consumption regulations, and will cost you less money to run.

This unit also comes UL-Certified, so you can rest assured in the knowledge that this model does not negatively affect the air around you and your loved ones. This certification is earned by undergoing extreme testing by Underwriters Laboratories, who are an uncontested industry stamp of approval.

Convenience

A remote control is included with this unit, which makes operation of this device far more convenient, saving the user from having to move across the room, merely to change a setting.

This unit also comes with a 24-hour programmable timer so the user may input which hours of the day that they would like their unit to function, automatically.

Three cooling speeds and an added auto function, offer the user a great deal of flexibility with regards to cooling their home. The cooling speeds allow the user to manually change the intensity of airflow coming from the device. The auto feature allows the device to automatically power-on when it detects an increase in room temperature.

Automatic restart is another feature on this model, meaning this unit will automatically power-on following a power outage.

A sleep mode will gradually increase room temperature after being activated, and an Eco mode will restrict the operational capacity of the device to preserve money, and energy.

With a maximum noise level of 63dBA, this device is not going to bother you at night. For reference, the average human conversation registers at about 60dB.

Design

Amana put effort into this design, and it shows. Weighing 44.10lbs, this unit is the lightest of the units on this list.

With 8-way directional air louvers, the user can direct which way they want the air to blow. As well as this, an electric control panel with digital display shows all relevant info the user needs to know, including a ‘filter alert’ for when the removable filter needs washing, for maintenance.

This unit also comes with an easy-to-install mounting kit, the convenience of which cannot be overstated.

A 5.9 ft. LCDI 3-prong power cord is also useful, as it increases the number of windows this unit can be placed in, based on how close they are to a socket.

Help & Support

As this product was made by Amana, it has the same website as the first item on this list, and so avails of all the online services mentioned above, such as a dedicated FAQs page, downloadable user manuals, a comprehensive Troubleshooting page, and a page supplying information relating to product parts.

Furthermore, Amana representatives are available to be contacted via phone, email, live chat, and through their various social media presences on sites such as Facebook, and Twitter.

This product is backed by a 1-year limited warranty. We advise that you contact Amana if you have any questions or issues with their warranty policies.

Verdict

While not exceptionally stylish, this unit makes up for what it lacks in many ways. By its low cost, both of purchase and upkeep, this unit is exceptionally efficient. While this model does not benefit from portability, it is a fantastic AC unit nonetheless, due to the sheer amount of convenience-enhancing features built into it.

3. Amana 12,000 Btu Air Conditioner

3rd stop on our Amana Air Conditioner Review is the Amana 12,000 Btu Air Conditioner. One step up the ladder from the previous window-mount, this unit doubles the Btu cooling performance of its predecessor on this list. The 12,000 Btu is perfect if you’ve got a large living room space in need of cooling.

Cooling Performance

With 12,000 BTUs of cooling power, this unit is capable of cooling a room up to 550 sq. ft.

While providing above average cooling power, this unit also doubles as a dehumidifier, removing approximately 2.64 pints of moisture from the air every hour.

This unit is most suitable for medium sized living spaces, up to the 550 sq. ft. mark.

Efficiency / Certifications

While unfortunately not Energy Star Certified, this unit boasts an Energy Efficiency Ratio (‘EER’) of 12.1. This places the Amana 12,000 well above the industry average mark of 9.7.

Furthermore, this product is UL-listed, meaning it is officially certified not to damage the air in your home.

Convenience

Controllable via a remote control, this unit can be operated from across the room, which enhances the convenience of operating this unit immensely.

A 24-hour programmable timer and inclusion of an Auto-setting allows customisation of how and when the user would like their unit to operate.

With the three cooling settings, the user is enabled to change the intensity of the airflow from the device manually, allowing more control to the operator.

In the case of a power outage, when power has been restored, this unit will wake itself by automatic restart, and get back to work.

Additional features included with this unit are Eco Mode and Sleep Mode, both of which are explained above.

Finally, with a maximum noise level of 66dB, this device is relatively quiet, peaking at a level that’s just barely over the level of an average human conversation (60dB).

Design

Weighing 72.80lbs we would advise our readers not to lift this model on their own, as a precautionary measure.

An easy-set-up window kit is included with this unit, making the whole process of setting up your Window Mounted AC unit quick and simple.

As well as this, a 5.9 ft. LCDI power cord with a 3-prong grounded plug increases the number of optional locations for you to place this unit.

Another minor yet useful feature of this unit is the 8-way directional air louvers, which the user can configure to blast air at a particular part of the room.

The unit features a user interface on the top left of its front-face, that contains a ‘filter alert’ indicator, that warns the user that a removable filter inside the device requires cleaning. This washable filter is immensely useful, as it means you won’t have to purchase a new one every time the filter is too dirty.

Help & Support

All models on this list avail of the same online support infrastructure. This entails representatives contactable via phone, email, live chat, and selected social networks.

As well as this, there are numerous resources available to the consumer on Amana’s site, such as FAQ’s, information regarding product parts, downloadable user manuals, and a troubleshooting page.

This product is also backed by a 1-year limited warranty. We recommend that the buyer contact Amana if they have any questions or issues with warranty policy.

Verdict

This is a very high quality product. Providing enough cooling strength, combined with the added benefit of a built-in dehumidifier, this unit would be perfect in a hot & humid environment. Overall, our only concerns with this product are its weight, but for a unit as powerful as this, a slightly heavier weight should be expected.

4. Amana 15,000 Btu Window Mounted Air Conditioner

The penultimate unit on our Amana Air Conditioner Review, is the Amana 15,000 Btu Window Mounted Air Conditioner. While not doubling the performance of its predecessor on this list, the 15,000 Btu window-mount is nonetheless a brilliant product in its own rite. Increasing upon the previous entry to this list’s Btu cooling score by an impressive 3,000 BTUs, this unit sets itself apart from its predecessor. We would recommended this powerful unit to anyone seeking to cool a large living area.

Cooling Performance

Bringing an impressive 15,000 BTUs of cooling power to the table, this window-mounted AC unit can quickly cool and dehumidify a room up to 700 sq. ft.

On top of this, the Amana 15,000 Btu Window Mounted Air Conditioner is also capable of removing 3.52 pints of moisture from the air each hour.

We would recommend this unit for use in large living spaces, such as open plan living areas etc.

Efficiency / Certifications

While this unit does not, unfortunately, have an Energy Star certification, it does boast an EER of 11.9. Once again, this reaches far beyond the industry average of 9.7.

Beware however, that by not having an Energy Star Cert, it may mean that this product does not comply with US energy consumption laws, and could cost more than usual in electricity bills.

Convenience

As per usual, Amana have gone to great lengths to make this unit as convenient as possible for the user.

Including a remote control, the user can activate different modes on the device from across the room.

With three fan speeds, and cooling settings, the user can customise to a reasonable extent how their AC performs.

With a built-in 24-hour timer, the unit can be programmed to follow a schedule, operating during key hours of the day.

As if all of this wasn’t enough already, this unit has automatic restart function whereby after power outages the device will power-on by itself.

An Eco mode is also included, whereby the machine reduces its functioning capacity, in order to consume less energy to save you money on your bills.

One potentially underrated feature is the removable / washable air filter, with a ‘clean filter’ alert. This prevents you from having to pay for new filters. Combine this with a built-in sleep setting and you get one of most convenient and diverse units we have reviewed.

Amazingly, although this unit improves on the previous unit’s cooling power, it actually makes slightly less noise, with a max. noise level of 65dB.

Design

Weighing in at 105.80lbs, we strongly advise our readers to not attempt lifting or installing this unit without aid.

Coming with an easy-to-install window mounting kit, this unit is quick to set up and have operational in your home.

A 5.9 ft. power cord with a 3-prong grounded plug extends the range of potential locations in your property that this unit may be placed. The longer the cord, the better, as the window need only be within 5.9 feet of a socket.

A user interface is built-in to the top left corner of the devices front-face, providing all necessary information to the operator, including a ‘filter alert’ indicator.

Finally, what may seem like a minor addition, the units 8-way directional air louvers direct the air coming through to where you need it the most. This is a useful feature when one area of the room is warmer than the other.

Help & Support

As this product is one of the Amana range, it avails of the same support services as the other AC units on this list, including representatives contactable via email, phone, live chat, and social media.

Even further, customers have access to FAQ’s, user manuals, parts information, and a troubleshooter page on Amana’s website.

This product is backed by a 1-year limited warranty. As always, please contact Amana for more details.

Verdict

This is a fantastic window mounted AC unit, in our opinion. The only issue we could have is, once again, the design. However, once again we must admit that this criticism is not significant enough for it to factor into how we rate this unit.

5. Amana 22,000 Btu Air Conditioner

Finally, the biggest and baddest unit of our Amana Air Conditioner Review; The Amana 22,000 Btu Air Conditioner. With 22,000 Btu of cooling power, this beast will cool your living space effectively, while also dehumidifying a sizeable amount of the air in your home. Effective up to 1,400 sq. ft. and removing 5.81 pints of moisture from the air every hour.

This unit is by far the most powerful on this list, easily eclipsing even the already impressive 15,000 Btu’s of its predecessor. This unit is suitable if you have a lot of space to cool. We would recommend this unit for very large living spaces.

Cooling Performance

Carrying with it a jaw-dropping 22,000 BTUs of cooling power, this unit is capable of quickly cooling and dehumidifying a room up to 1,400 sq. ft.

Dehumidifying 5.81 pints of moisture from the air every hour, this unit is definitely worth considering if you’re interested in an AC unit that can double as a dehumidifier.

We would recommend installation of this AC in a large living space, within the square footage mentioned above. However, if you have doubts relating to whether or not your home is large enough to warrant an air conditioner unit this powerful, we advise that you pick a smaller unit, as an over-performing AC unit will only cost you a lot of money.

Efficiency / Certifications

While not Energy Star certified, this model is UL-Listed. This means that while this unit may not adhere to all regulations regarding energy consumption in the US, it has been rigorously tested by UL for harming the air it interacts with, and has passed.

With an Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) of 10.4, this unit stands well above the industry average of 9.7, which means that operation of the unit should not cost too much.

Convenience

This model comes with a vast array of convenient additions to your average Air Conditioning unit. Firstly, with a remote control, the user can select from three fan settings, and three cooling settings.

Furthermore, the user can also use the unit’s 24-hour timer to schedule when the unit should power-on or off, even when the user is not present. A sleep setting, eco setting, and auto setting are all available as well.

Sleep mode will gradually increase room temperature after activation. Eco mode consumes less energy, cutting down electricity costs. The auto setting will simply activate the device should it detect that the room has become too hot.

Finally, with somehow nearly double its Btu cooling power, the Amana 22,000 is only slightly louder than the Amana 12,000, coming in with a max. noise level of 67dBA.

Design

Weighing 123.50lbs, we would strongly urge our readers to refrain from attempting to lift or install this unit without appropriate aid.

This unit includes with it an easy-to-install window kit, making the experience of installation as quick, and as painless as possible.

Another useful aspect of this unit’s design is its 4.9-ft. LCDI power cord with a 3-prong grounded plug. The longer the cord the better, as it expands the list of possible installation locations in your home, with your selected window needing only to be within 4.9 feet of a socket.

The digital user interface is built-in to the top left of the front-face of this product. This interface displays any and all information that the user could needs to see. A ‘filter alert’ indicator is also included for when the removable, washable filter inside the machine needs cleaning. This is a cost saving feature, as it means you won’t have to splash out on a new filter every time one gets too dirty.

Finally, the 8-way directional air louvers are easily moved, directing air wherever the user sees fit.

Help & Support

Customers who invest in an Amana product have the pleasure of enjoying a level of customer support that is seldom seen. Maintaining an impressive infrastructure of online customer support, Amana has definitely gone the extra mile in ensuring customer satisfaction.

On their site, customers can contact representatives via phone, email, live chat, or through the company’s social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)

An FAQ’s section is also available, alongside other useful resources such as downloadable user manuals, information regarding product parts, and a troubleshooter page.

This product, has a standard 1-year warranty, backed by Amana. If you have any queries whatsoever, do not hesitate to contact the manufacturer.

Verdict

In conclusion, this unit is definitely one to consider for those of us who live with heat and humidity. With the Amana 22,000 Btu window mounted AC unit, you can rest assured with the knowledge that you’re going to be living in comfort. This beast of a window mount will tear through any obstacles in its path, leaving your home with a cool freshness even on the hottest of summer afternoons.

Amana Air Conditioner Review – Final Verdict

As we conclude our analysis of five Amana Air Conditioner Review, it’s clear that there is no “bad” one. Each unit sits comfortably into its own class. Whether you need an air con unit that will provide you with a moderate 6,000 BTUs, or a titanic 22,000 BTUs, Amana has the solution. With a wide range of units, each of which we have discovered to be functional, efficient, and innovative, we at Air Conditioners rated would recommend this brand for anyone living in a hot or humid climate, as these fantastic pieces of equipment will combat both the heat and the moisture.

In fact, our only issue with these products at all was that we thought the aesthetic design of the window-mounted units to be slightly generic, and dated. However, given the standard to which these units perform, it would be unfairly belittling to reduce such effective appliances to their aesthetic value.

In conclusion, Amana has proven themselves as a brand worthy of our respect and admiration, thanks to these powerful AC units. Powerful, efficient, durable, and convenient, there are no boxes left un-ticked by these powerhouses, and so they have our strong recommendation for purchase and use within the limitations we’ve listed.
